New Delhi, May 10 : The Bharatiya Janata Party has written to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh , requesting him to fill up the vacant post of SIT, formed to assist the Justice S N Dhingra Commission, which was set up to re-investigate the 1984 Anti-Sikh riot cases.
In a letter written on Wednesday to the Home Minister, with a copy send to the Chief Justice of India, BJP National Secretary R P Singh said there has been no progress made by the Justice Dhingra Commission, appointed in February 2018 to re-investigate the 1984 riots , for prosecuting the offenders, as out of two officers appointed to the SIT , one had not joined .
‘Two police officers were appointed to help the Commission in reinvestigating the cases. One of the IPS officer Rajdeep Singh (Retd) did not join the SIT and that’s why the SIT has not functioned for last three months,’ Sardar Singh said in the letter released to media on Thursday.
‘The Home ministry was supposed to forward the name of another IPS officer to the Supreme Court for approval, but as per our information no substitute name has been sent in place of IPS Rajdeep
Singh, consequently no progress has been made in the investigation of the case,’Mr Singh said.
Requesting to immediately send the name for approval and appointment to fill the vacant post of SIT, so that it can start functioning and complete the required re-investigation and prosecution, Sardar Singh
said ‘If it is not done soon, the hopes of justice to the thousands of riot victims will fade away.’
