Bengaluru, May 19 : Accusing the Congress of conspiring against his government, Chief
Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Saturday announced his resignation in the Karnataka Legislative
Assembly barely three days after he was sworn in and did not press for taking up the motion of
Confidence moved by him on the floor of the House.
Mr Yeddyurappa who moved the motion after the members were sworn in an emotional speech accused the Congress of conspiring to ensure that the BJP did not get the requisite majority. The BJP which had secured 104 seats in the May 12 Assembly elections was invited by Governor Vajubhai Vala to form the government and gave a 15 day deadline. However with the Congress approaching the Supreme Court, which in an intervention sought Mr Yeddyurappa to go in for a floor test today.
This was the third time Mr Yeddyurappa had become the Chief Minister. His first tenure lasted barely seven days in 2007 and he became Chief Minister again in May 2008, but had to resign in 2011 following corruption charges against him by the Lokayukta in a mining scam. UNI
