Thiruvananthapuram, May 28  : About 15.7 per cent, of the total 1,99,340 voters, have exercised their franchise in the first two hours in the bypoll to Chengannur Assembly constituency, which is witnessing a three-cornered contest.
Enthusiastic voters queued up at the polling booths despite rain.
Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and his family members caste their votes in the 130-number booth at Tripperunthura UP School. Reports said voting was disrupted in the booth following technical snag in the voting machines.
LDF candidate Saji Cheriyan exercised his franchise in the 77-number booth at HSS Kozhuvallur, while UDF candidate D Vijayakumar and his family members caste their votes in 97-number booth at HSS, Puliyoor. NDA candidate PS Sreedharan Pillai polled his vote at a booth in his native place, Venmoney.
R Rajesh MLA exercised his franchise at 143-number booth at Muhammadans UP School near Kollakadavu.
Rain occurred in many places in the constituency and power supply was disrupted in severak places affecting the voting in many booths including in Budhanur and Cheriyand.
Reports also said that a voter was fainted at Tripperunthura UP School, this morning.
