Hyderabad, Jun 2 : Launching of welfare schemes, ceremonial parades, paying tributes to martyrs and honouring of eminent people marked the Telangana Formation Day celebrations held, amid, elaborate arrangements, on Saturday.
At the main function held at the sprawling Secunderabad Parade grounds, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao unfurled the national flag and took the salute at the ceremonial parade presented by the contingents of uniformed personnel.
Earlier, Mr Rao paid tributes to martyrs of Telangana movement at the Martyrs Memorial at Gun Park near the State Secretariat before arriving at the Secunderabad parade grounds.
Despite the cloudy weather, which prevailed in the city and its environs since morning, a large number of the people including women and children watched the colourful celebrations at the iconic Secunderabad parade grounds.
A drizzle started even as the Chief Minister was reviewing the parade standing on an open jeep.
Coinciding with the state formation day, the Chief Minister formally announced the launching of Rs five lakh Insurance Scheme for the farmers.
In his address, he presented a progress report of various welfare and development programmes launched during the four-year rule of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) to fulfill the government’s avowed aim to covert the state into “Golden Telangana”.
