Dehradun, July 1  : At least 45 people were killed and eight others injured when an overloaded bus, they were travelling, in plunged into a gorge in Pauri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand on Sunday.
District Information Officer, Pauri, Kripal Singh said the accident occurred when driver of the bus lost control over the vehicle and it plunged into the gorge in Nainidanda block at 0845 hrs, resulting in on the spot death of 45 people.
The bus was en route to Ramnagar from Bhon.
The injured were rushed to Dhumakot and Ramnagar hospitals.
District Disaster Management Control Room has also confirmed 45 casualties in the incident.
Relief and rescue operations were on.
The bodies were being extricated with the help of locals.
