Rajya Sabha adjourned again till 2 pm over ruckus on Assam NRC issue

New Delhi, July 30  : The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 1400 hrs for the second time on Monday within a minute before the Question Hour could be taken up over ruckus on National Register of Citizens in Assam.
No sooner did Chairman M Venkaiah Nadu take his seat that some of the opposition members were on their feet continuing their protest over the draft of the NRC in Assam which was released on Monday.
Immediately the Chair adjourned the House till 2 pm after lunch. As a consequence the Question Hour could not be taken up.
Earlier the Rajya Sabha was adjourned soon after it met till noon on Monday after the opposition members created a ruckus over National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Just after laying the papers during the Zero Hour, the AITC lawmakers raised the issue of NRC and entered into the Well, which forced Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu to adjourn the House till 1200 hrs.
Mr Naidu told the agitating members that some members had met him over NRC issues and he had sought clarification from Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the matter.
“The Home Minister is in the House and he will clarify over the issue,” he said.
The members from Congress, AITC, SP, CPI, TDP and RJD, however, started shouting relentlessly against the government.
The government on Monday released the final draft of NRC list.
The final draft contains names of 28,983,677 citizens and around 40 lakh people have been left out of the list.
The first draft of the NRC process was released in December 31, 2017 in which names of around 1.9 crore people out of the total application of 3.29 crore people were included.
Mr Singh said, “Some people are unnecessarily trying to create an atmosphere of fear. This is a completely impartial report. No misinformation should be spread. This is a draft and not the final list.”
