Srinagar: A militant was killed in a brief shootout at Achabal area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district last night, police sources said on Saturday.
They said that militants attacked police post at Ranipora area of Achabal late last night by firing at the post.
“The fire was retaliated triggering off a brief gunfight,” police sources said.
One militant was killed and a policeman suffered injuries in the incident, police sources said adding that it was a weapon snatching bid on part of militants which was foiled.
Identity of the slain militant was yet to be established, sources said.
They said that soon after the incident forces cordoned off a huge area to nab other militants. (GNS)
