Anantnag: Thousands of people Friday participated in the funeral prayers of four militants killed in an encounter with government forces in Arwini area of this south Kashmir district.

Witnesses told KR that thousands of people converged at Arwini here and Awoora, Watoo Aharbal and DH Pora in the neighbouring Kulgam district when the bodies of slain militants were handed over to their family for burial this morning.

Multiple rounds of funeral prayers were offered for Owais Lone of Hizbul Mujahideen and Muzamil Magray and Amir Tantray of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit. Amidst vociferous slogans, all the slain militants were laid to rest.

Groups of youth clashed with government forces in Hawoora and Redwani after funeral prayers. A few protesters, according to witnesses sustained minor injuries in the clashes.

A large number of people also attended funeral prayers of Hizb militant Sahir Makroo at Arwini.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in all the four south Kashmir districts over the fresh spate of killings.
