srinagar: Hurriyat (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday urged the world community to hold the promised referendum in Jammu and Kashmir.

โ€œToday on 5 Jan 1949, it is 70 years since UN Security Council passed the resolution to give the people of J&K the universally accepted right to decide their future through UN sponsored plebiscite,โ€ said the Mirwaiz on Twitter.

Urging the world community to hold the promised referendum, Mirwaiz wrote: โ€œAs we suffer forcible control and lose generation after generation to the dispute, we urge the world community to fulfil that commitment and hold the promised referendum. #RightToSelfDeterminationDay.โ€
