Srinagar, Jan 17: (GNS) The incarcerated chairman of Muslim League Jammu Kashmir Masarat Aalam was on Thursday brought to Srinagar from Kot Bhalwal Jail to appear before the CJM Srinagar in a case lodged against him by Kothi Bagh police station in 2010.

The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for 30 January 2019. After the hearing, Aalam was taken back to Jammu jail, a spokesperson of the League Sajad Ayoubi said in a statement issued to GNS.

โ€œAalam is languishing in jail since long, however, it is quite disheartening that he is being subjected to vengeance by state authorities,โ€ he said, adding, โ€œThe administration has made its mind to place Masarat Alam behind bars and it is using PSA and other baseless charges as a tool otherwise courts have repeatedly quashed his detention and directed his release.โ€

Ayoubi said that keeping Masarat Aalam in jails on โ€œconcocted chargesโ€ and repeatedly slapping PSAs on him to prolong his incarceration is โ€œnothing but a travesty of justiceโ€.

โ€œA conspiracy is being hatched to keep him behind bars. Authorities donโ€™t want to free him. New ways and means are being devised to harass and intimidate him, but he will never succumb,โ€ the spokesperson said.

Stressing for Masarat Alamโ€™s early release, the spokesperson appealed to United Nations, OIC, Human Rights Council, Red Cross, Amnesty International and other rights bodies to come forward and take strong note of โ€œillegalโ€ detention of the incarcerated leader.
