A witness said that youth took to streets and clashed with the forces after the CASO was launched on Thursday evening.

Clashes erupted after the government forces launched a cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) in Arihal village of south Kashmirโ€™s Pulwama district on Thursday.

A witness said that youth took to streets and clashed with the forces after the CASO was launched on Thursday evening.

He said the forces lobbed tear gas shells after a group of local pelted them with stones to disrupt the anti-militant operation.

An official said the Jammu & Kashmir Police, Army’s Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have jointly launched the operation.

He said the search operation was launched after โ€œspecific inputsโ€ about the presence of militants there.

The operation was on when this report was being filed.
