Srinagar, May 11 (UNI) Asserting that J&K residents returning home from outside the Union Territory call for more precautions and focus on fighting Coronavirus pandemic, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Srinagar, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary on Monday said many tested positive for the infection on arrival.
Dr Choudhary said that quarantine and testing of returnees is mandatory for stamping out COVID-19.
Meanwhile, a total of 37 stranded persons, including 11 students, left from Agra towards J&K on Monday morning.
“Flights, Trains & Buses with people headed home call for more attention, precautions & focus on fighting the Pandemic. Quarantine &/or Testing mandatory for stamping out #Coronavirus. Many testing positive on arrival,” the Srinagar DC wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.
He said 1627 residents have returned to Srinagar over the weekend. “Of these, 1200 tested; 236 reach home after testing negative,” he said.
“Please do report to TRC upon arrival. Our colleagues are there 24×7 to assist you,” he added.
The special train service to bring back J&K residents, who are stranded in different parts of the country amid lockdown to curtail the spread of Coronavirus, started on Sunday, an official said.
He said over 1000 J&K residents, stranded in Bangaluru, have been evacuated in a special train, which will arrive at Udhampur in Jammu region on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a train bringing J&K residents back to the UT left Goa on Sunday evening.
