Srinagar, Dec 18 : The Civil Society Forum has expressed concern over the governmentโ€™s malafide designs to change the demography of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir by way of making amendments in land laws.

In a statement, issued to KPS, chairman Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum, Abdul Qayoom Wani said the regulations framed by the board of revenue for conversion of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes was nothing but part of a mega design to change the demography of Jammu and Kashmir.

He expressed surprise over the matter that every now and then such big decisions are taken overnight without taking the people on board for consent and consideration and it is deemed that everything befits and benefits them by default, which is an irony, post abrogation of Article 370 and 35- A.

He said that the geography, farm and forest lands of Jammu and Kashmir were exceptionally different to be preserved for the purposes of pastures, agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, water bodies, tourist destinations forestry and the medicinal and aroma plant industry for it having been favourable and feasible in environment and ecology and the geographic landscap thereof.

The forum has demanded rollback of land conversion law to safeguard the geographical, farm, forest and natural resources of Jammu and Kashmir.
