Bandipora, Jan 16: Amid closure of Gurez-Bandipora road due to snow, an elderly patient, who was in need of a ‘Surgical Consultation’, was airlifted here on Sunday from snowbound Gurez Valley to a hospital at Bandipora.

An official told GNS that the control room established here for the emergency evacuations on Sunday airlifted Abdul Kabir Lone,70, a resident of Baudugam of Gurez, who had developed some complications post surgery, adding that the patient was accordingly airlifted to Bandipora.

He said the evacuation was done following directions from Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed.

Pertinently, the 84-Km long Gurez-Bandipora road mainly remains closed during winters due to accumulation of heavy snowfall amid freezing temperatures.

However, for the convenience of the general populace of Gurez, Bandipora administration had in prior set-up different control rooms for emergency evacuations.

“Around twenty people have been evacuated this winter of which most of them were in need of medical attention,” the official informed. (GNS)
