SRINAGAR: Congress leader Prof. Saifuddin Soz Saturday pleaded for the release of 3 Kashmiri students who have on languishing in Agra Jail of Uttar Pradesh for allegedly celebrating the Indian Cricket teamโ€™s defeat against Pakistan in October last year.

Soz has written a letter to Indian Home Minister Amit Shah seeking the release of Arshad Yousuf, Inayat Altaf Sheikh, and Showkat Ahmad Ganai, arrested and lodged in Agra jail in October last year.

Soz said that in his letter to Home Minister Amit Shah he strongly pleaded for the release of three Kashmiri students.
โ€œIt was alleged that they had cheered for the Pakistan cricket team, who had won the cricket match against India.โ€

โ€œI invited the attention of the Home Minister to the fact that till now, the police had not been able to prove that these three Kashmiri students had cheered for the Pakistani team. Instead, it was found that they had conveyed a screenshot of greetings to their friends,โ€ Soz in the letter has written.

He pleaded with the Home Minister that: โ€œour countryโ€™s legal system would help these students to get released, finally. But it would be more graceful to release them immediately.โ€
