At least 17 shanties were gutted even as three firefighters injured in a fire mishap in city suburbs on Sunday morning, reports and officials said.

Reports reaching GNS said that a devastating fire broke out in Parimpora early this morning, and soon after spread to engulf many shanties.

The Fire & Emergency Services Department was intimated, which soon after reached the site with men and machinery.

Despite hectic efforts by the firefighters and locals for several hours, the fire gutted almost seventeen shanties before the fire was finally put out.

When contacted, an F&ES official told GNS that at least seventeen shanties were gutted in the mishap. “A rescue operation was launched soon after receiving the information”, he said adding “It was a difficult operation because the flames were raging voluptuously.”

“The efforts however paid off as fire was stopped before it could spread to other shanties in close proximity to each other”, the official said.

“Three firefighters sustained injuries during the rescue operation”, the official added. (GNS)
