The Jammu & Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) has expressed deep grief and heartfelt condolences over the tragic loss of lives caused by the devastating cloudburst and flash floods in Chositi, Kishtwar, on August 14, 2025.
On behalf of the organization, Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani conveyed his sympathies to the families of the victims, emphasizing solidarity with those affected by the calamity. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and a swift recovery for the injured.
Wani highlighted the catastrophic nature of the disaster, describing it as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of the region’s hilly and flood-prone areas. He called on the government to urgently upgrade healthcare infrastructure in remote regions by equipping hospitals with advanced facilities, emergency care units, and trained disaster-response medical teams—asserting that timely medical intervention can significantly save lives during such emergencies.
In a gesture of respect and mourning, JKCSF Chairman also appreciated the government’s decision to cancel cultural programmes in the region, calling it “a sensitive and compassionate gesture that reflects collective mourning.”
He further urged the administration to prioritize relief and rehabilitation efforts, along with implementing long-term preventive measures to mitigate the impact of future disasters.
