The revered Rishi saints of Kashmir embody the essence of Sufi tradition—champions of unity, tolerance, and spiritual wisdom. Among them, Hazrat Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA), popularly known as Nund Rishi, stands out as a guiding light who travelled across the Valley, spreading the message of Islam, divine wisdom, and universal brotherhood.
These thoughts were expressed by Allama Dr. Shaykh Ghulam Rasool Hami, prominent scholar and Patron of Karwani Islami International, while addressing a large gathering at Central Jamia Masjid Beerwah on the occasion of Jumu‘ah al-Mubarak and the Urs of Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA).
Paying glowing tributes, Allama Hami described Nund Rishi as not only a beacon of spiritual knowledge (‘Ilm-e-Rabbani) and divine realization (Ma‘rifat-e-Haqq), but also a great social reformer. Through his soulful poetry, noble conduct, and inclusive teachings, Sheikh-ul-Alam challenged sectarianism and religious intolerance, advocating love, harmony, and human unity.
Allama Hami emphasized that the saint's legacy of empathy, generosity, and mutual respect has profoundly shaped Kashmiri culture, making it more tolerant, open, and spiritually enriched. His teachings continue to inspire people of all faiths, who flock to his shrines in search of solace and spiritual light.
Shifting focus to the pressing issue of drug abuse, Allama Hami issued a strong call for immediate and robust legislation against drugs and alcohol. He urged authorities to prioritize the fight against drug trafficking and addiction, warning that substance abuse is tearing apart the moral and social fabric of society.
He stressed that reviving the teachings of the pious saints (Salihin) is essential for guiding today’s youth. According to him, integrating their spiritual and ethical wisdom into the curricula of shrines, madrasas, schools, colleges, and universities is the only way to build a disciplined, ethical, and morally resilient society.
