In a significant political development, independent Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) are planning to convene a joint meeting in Srinagar to deliberate on their collective strategy for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls.

Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), MLA from Rajouri Muzaffar Iqbal Khan said that they are meeting soon  to discuss their strategy for the Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for October 24.

“We are meeting to discuss the Rajya Sabha polls,” he said, adding that five independent MLAs are expected to participate in the meeting.

As per rules governing RS elections, independent MLAs are required to insert the marked ballot paper into the ballot box without showing it to any agent.

If they display their vote to anyone, including the authorized agent of any political party, it is liable to be cancelled, the rules state—(KNO)
