Engineer Rashid

Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid, has reportedly been shifted to Jail Number 1 in Delhi’s Tihar Prison following an alleged attack inside the jail premises recently.

The party confirmed that the independent MP from north Kashmir’s Baramulla constituency was relocated to another block after the alleged assault incident sparked serious security concerns.

The party spokesperson said that Rashid, who has been lodged in Tihar was allegedly attacked by some inmates during a routine interaction period.

The party was “deeply disturbed” by the reports and demanded an independent inquiry into the alleged incident. “This is not just about one individual, it’s about custodial safety and the rights of prisoners under law.”

Rashid was elected as an independent MP from Baramulla in the 2024 parliamentary elections while being in custody. [KNT]
