India on Thursday said Operation Sindoor delivered a “befitting reply” to Pakistan for sponsoring cross-border terrorism.

Addressing a media briefing in New Delhi, Randhir Jaiswal said Pakistan has long used cross-border terrorism as an instrument of state policy and asserted that India has every right to defend itself against terror threats.

He said India remains committed to strengthening the global fight against terrorism and will continue taking necessary measures to safeguard national security.

Responding to a question on illegal Bangladeshi nationals, Jaiswal said over 2,860 nationality verification cases are pending with Bangladesh and reiterated that foreign nationals staying illegally in India would be repatriated as per established legal and bilateral mechanisms.

On Khalistani groups operating from Canada, the MEA spokesperson said India has consistently raised concerns over extremist and separatist elements using Canadian territory as a safe haven and urged Ottawa to take effective action against anti-India activities.
