Central government on Wednesday posted senior IPS officer Abdul Gani Mir to Jammu and Kashmir segment of joint AGMUT cadre with immediate effect and until further orders.

An order, in this regard has been passed by Ministry of Home Affairs.

 The 94-Batch IPS officer was Abdul Gani was promoted to Director General of Police (DGP) in February 2025, and currently serves in that capacity. A native of Kupwara in the Kashmir Valley, Mir served on several key positions including IGP Kashmir and ADGP CID. Mir also served in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) as Inspector General (IG) and then Additional Director General (ADG) before his latest promotion.
