Nagapattinam, Nov 17 : The Sri Lankan Navy detained ten more Indian fishermen and impounded their mechanized fishing trawler for allegedly violating the maritime boundary of the Island nation, today.

Quoting a communiqué received from Sri Lanka, a senior officer of Tamil Nadu Fisheries Department said here that an offshore patrol vessel of Lankan Navy detained ten Indian fishermen along with a fishing trawler for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters North-East of Point Pedro Lighthouse.

The apprehended fishermen, trawler and fishing gear were taken to Sri Lankan Naval Base in Kankesanthurai and handed over to the Assistant Fisheries Director of Jaffna for onward legal action.

The fishermen hailed from Thideer Kuppam locality in Akkarapettai Coastal hamlet of Nagapattinam district.

The arrest comes a day after ten fishermen hailing from Nagapattinam district were detained by Lankan Navy along with a fishing trawler.
