Srinagar, Jun 5 : Reacting to Ankit Saxena’s father organising an Iftar party in Delhi, former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah said he finds himself asking, if he would have the same fortitude and strength of character, in a similar situation.
Ankit (23), a freelance wedding photographer, was murdered in front of his family in February by the relatives of a woman he was courting, since they were opposed to the inter-religious affair.
However, five months after the incident — in an attempt to spread the message of peace and harmony — his father Yashpal organised the Iftar party on Sunday, with the help of their neighbour Mohammad Izhar Alam in West Delhi.
‘I find myself asking if I would have the same fortitude & strength of character in a similar situation,’ Mr Abdullah, who is the working president of the National Conference (NC), wrote on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Mr Abdullah was responding to a tweet, which read, ‘To Ankit Saxena father: sir, you make us realise what being human is truly all about’.
