Kolkata, Jun 28 : Former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, who suffered a haemorrhagic stroke on Wednesday night, has been admitted to a private hospital in the city.
The medics treating the former advocate at Belle Vue Clinic today said the condition of Mr Chatterjee, though critical, was stable now.
The former CPI(M) leader, who will turn 89 on July 25, suffered a haemorrhagic stroke in the brain.
Family sources said the octogenarian, who had restricted his movement for age related ailments, has been unwell since Monday.
Mr Chatterjee served the Lower House of Parliament as the speaker for five years since 2004.
