The body of Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee was kept at his official residence – 6 A, Krishna Menon Marg, where people payed homage to the departed leader.
His is being brought to the BJP Headquarters at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg on Friday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah among others arrived at the BJP headquarters.
The central government has declared a 7-day state mourning.
Condolences are pouring in from all quarters following former Prime Minister’s demise.
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement, “Standing before the United States Congress in 2000, he (Vajpayee) famously characterized U.S.-India ties as a natural partnership of shared endeavors. He recognized early on that the United States and India, based on their shared democratic values, could develop a partnership that would contribute to the economic prosperity and security of the region and the world”.
“The American people and I stand with the people of India as we mourn Prime Minister Vajpayee’s passing. Today, we hold the people of India in our thoughts and prayers,” he said in a statement.
