Chennai: US Navy’s aircraft carrier Nimitz, guided missile destroyers, Posedion aircraft and fast attack submarine would feature in ‘Malabar 2017’, the week-long joint naval exercise by India, United States and Japan in Bay of Bengal.
An US Consulate release here today said Malabar-2017 has grown in scope and complexity over the years to address the variety of shared threats to maritime security in the Indo-Asia Pacific.
The exercise featured both ashore and at-sea training off the eastern coast of India in the Bay of Bengal.
Training focussed on high-end war fighting skillsets, subject matter expert and professional exchanges, combined carrier strike group operations, maritime patrol and reconnaissance operations, surface and anti-submarine warfare, medical operations, damage control, special forces, Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), helicopter operations, and Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) operations.
The joint exercise was aimed at Indian, Japanese, and US maritime forces working together again to build upon and advance their working relationship to collectively provide security and stability in the Indo-Asia Pacific region. ย  ย ย (UNI)
