Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu: Continuing its aggressive stance, the Sri Lankan Maritime forces arrested eight more Indian fishermen and confiscated a steel hull bottom trawler on the alleged charges of violating the Maritime boundary of the Island nation and indulged in illegal fishing activities, last night.
State fisheries officials said here this morning that the fishermen, hailing from Akkaraipettai coastal hamlet in Nagapattinam district were reportedly arrested by a Naval patrol craft attached to the Northern Naval Command of Sri Lankan Navy in the Northern territorial waters, 17 nautical miles off South-East of Point Pedro.
The apprehended fishermen, trawler and fishing gear were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries for onward legal action.ย (UNI)
