Anantnag: In an another jolt for education department in Anantnag District. The department has failed to provide basic necessity facilities to students in Anantnag schools. A Govt middle school in Sofi Gund Wanpoh area of south Kashmirs Anantnag district about 2 km’s away from Anantnag town lack basic facilities, the school have no toilets, playground, drinking water facility, laboratory, library and play fields these are the basic necessities of any educational institution yet hundreds of Government schools in Anantnag District are lacking the same despite the tall claims of Government about turnaround in the education sector.

Sources told to Kashmir Age that the Sofi Gund Wanpoh Middle school have no toilet facility, however the school teachers and students who are enrolled in school went hundred meters away from school in an open area field for toilet. The school runs in three room set and had established in 1972 still the govt has failed to made toilets in school.

With a total roll of 30 students, some six teachers have been posted in school.

However last year Anantnag district has achieved the unique distinction of winning the Prime Ministerโ€™s Excellence Award for programme implementation in the category of โ€œSwachh Vidyalayaโ€ programme. The award was received on behalf of District Anantnag by Deputy Commissioner Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah.

Talking to Kashmir Age Abdul Rashid a local resident of the area told to kashmir Age that the Government has failed to provide basic facilities of students in schoolsย  even though the quality education to the students during the present era of stiff competition. We requested several times to higher authorities to look into the matter and provide basic facilities to students in school but all goes in vain. He added.

Meanwhile when contacted to the ZEO Zonal Education Officer Anantnag Rifat Aara she said that there was land dispute problem in school, after solved the land dispute problem today we start work for toilets in school and within two or three days the toilets will be completely made. She added.
