‘Operation in Zirhama going on’

Srinagar: Three Lashkar-e-Toiba militants and an army soldier were killed in two encounters in Kupwara area Tuesday even as the operation against militants in one of the operations is ongoing.

Police said that the identity of three LeT militants killed in the encounter at Magam, Handwara, is being ascertained.

Inspector General of Police, Kashmir range, Munir Khan, told KNS that three LeT militants, all from Pakistan, were killed in Magam encounter. “Three weapons and other ammunition was recovered from the bodies of the militants. The operation has been called off,” Khan told KNS, adding their identity is being ascertained.

The IGP said that in another operation against militants in Zirhama area of Kupwara an army soldier has been killed.

“Operation is going on as the militants, probably three in number, are hiding in forests. One army jawan has been martyred,” he said.

Meanwhile, the slain Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant, Adil Chopan, of Larow, Tral, who was killed in an encounter in Seer forests on Monday evening, was buried today noon, and his funeral was attended by large number of people.

A spontaneous shutdown was observed in Tral town over killing of Adil, 17, today, while internet service has been snapped in the area.
