Srinagar, Jan 24 : A 17-year-old youth was killed and another sustained pellet injuries during clashes at Chaigund area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Wednesday evening.

The clashes erupted soon after the encounter broke out in the area between militants and the government forces.

Official sources told news agency GNS that two teenage boys sustained injuries after police and paramilitary forces used teargas shells, pellet guns and resorted to some aerial shots to disperse the protesting youth at Chaigund area of Keegam.

Both the injured were rushed to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Rajpora where one among the two injured youth declared brought dead.

Javeed Ahmad Bhat, Block Medical Officer PHC Rajpora who operated upon the boy confirmed that he was declared brought dead on arrival.

He identified the deceased as Shakir Ahmad Mir (17) of Qalampora.

“Shakir received a bullet wound in his chest and as such succumbed”, Dr Javeed said. (GNS)
