Srinagar, Jan 31 : A youth, who was injured in Army firing during demonstrations on January 27 in Shopian, died in a hospital here on Wednesday, official sources said.

They said Rayees Ahmad Ganie, who was critically wounded when Army opened fire to disperse stone pelting demonstrators at Ganowpora, Shopian, succumbed in the S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) early this morning.

However, a defence ministry spokesman said that Army opened fire in self defence after a mob pelted stones on their vehicles in which 7 personnel, including a officer, were injured.
