Kolkata, Feb 27:Ā  Veteran CPI leader and party state secretary Prabodh Panda dies of massive cardiac arrest this morning.
He was 72.
Mr Panda, who was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha from Midnapore constituency in West Bengal in the 2001 byelection, was reelected to the Lok Sabha in 2004 and 2009 from the same constituency.
Mr Panda, who spent the last night at the party headquarter at Bhupesh Dutta Bhawan, felt severe pain in the chest in the morning and immediately collapsed.
CPI(M) state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra, Left Front chairman Biman Bose and CPI leader Manju Kumar Majumdar expressed condolence, while CPI general secretary Sudhakar Reddy is rushing to Kolkata to pay his last respect.
After serving the Lok Sabha as an MP for 13 years, he has been the secretary of state for West Bengal CPI since February 2015.
