Srinagar, May 8 : The education sector remained worst hit in the Kashmir valley, where colleges and schools were closed for the second day on Tuesday as a precautionary measure.
The universities have also postponed all scheduled examination after separatists extended the strike call against the Shopian killings on Sunday.
The divisional administration has ordered that all educational institutions will remain closed in the Kashmir valley on Tuesday also as a precautionary measure.
The decision has been taken in view of the prevailing situation in the Kashmir valley, the administration said.
Meanwhile, the Kashmir University (KU) and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama have also suspended class work and posted all examinations which were scheduled to be held on Tuesday.
A KU spokesman said that all examinations have been postponed today and new date will be announced separately later.
A spokesman for the IUST said there will be no class work also in the university. All the examinations slated for today have been postponed. New dates for the deferred examinations shall be notified separately.
Though no reason was given for postponing class work and examinations, the prevailing situation following the killing of five militants in an encounter and as many civilians in security force action on demonstrators in Shopian on Sunday was behind taking this decision.
One of the five slain militants killed in Shopian encounter on Monday was Dr Mohammad Rafi Bhat, who was working as Assistant Professor in the KU before joining the Hizbul Mujahideen(HM) militant outfit recently.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Mohammad Yaseen Malik last night extended general strike today against the killing of five civilians and as many militants of HM on Sunday in Shopian.
Last month, the educational institutions remained closed for several days due to protests and strike. UNI
