A 40-year-old Amarnath Yatra pilgrim from Punjab was found dead at a hotel in Sonamarg on Friday. The deceased was identified as Narinder Kumar, a resident of Barnala district.
Officials said the pilgrim was found unconscious at the hotel and was shifted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) Sonamarg, where doctors declared him dead after completing medico-legal formalities.
Police have initiated inquest proceedings under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to ascertain the exact cause of death. Further investigation is underway.
