Srinagar: Attendants at the State-run Lal Ded hospital in Srinagar on Thursday staged a protest against the alleged mismanagement by the authorities at the maternity facility.

Raising slogans against the administration, scores of attendants assembled at the front gate of the hospital and blocked the traffic movement for over than hour.

They alleged that the hospital security was asking for bribe for even petty things.

โ€œFrom entry into the hospital to birth of a child, all they want is money,โ€ alleged an attendant. โ€œYesterday, they didn’t handover the child to the family because the attendant was not able to pay the bribe, then we collected 10-20 bucks each and gave her.โ€

The protest triggered a traffic jam in the area with motorists forced to skip the route.

Police rushed to the spot to clear the road, but the protesters didnโ€™t budge. The road was cleared for traffic only after an hour.

The attendants later on marched towards the office of the medical superintendent.
