New Delhi, May 10 : The Supreme court on Thursday dismissed Sri Ram Sene (SRS) leader Pramod Muthalik’s petition, challenging the Congress manifesto in the upcoming Assembly elections in Karnataka state.
Muthalik had sought a direction from the Apex Court seeking removal of parts from Congress manifesto in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly election.
A three-judge bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, and also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachu, passed the order after hearing from Muthalik’s lawyer and others.
Muthalik had yesterday knocked the doors of the Apex Court, alleging that Congress manifesto seeks vote in the name of religion and thus all Congress candidates should be disqualified.
“We are not inclined to pass any order,” the court bench said in its order.
The top court also raised question on the petitioner, as to who was he? He is only a voter. Neither he is a party nor contesting the upcoming state Assembly election.
Not finding any merit in Muthalik’s petition, the Supreme Court dismissed it and asked him, if he has any grievances after the Karnataka State Assembly election, he can again approach the court for relief. UNI
