Srinagar: With Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti
abolished stamp duty on transfer of property for the state's women,
hundreds of women are waiting that loans received from Womens
Development Corporation (WDC) are too waived off as a goodwill
gesture.

J&K is the first state to undertake this path-breaking initiative to
encourage the transfer of property to female members of a family and
empower women.
CM Mehbooba tweeted: "Pleased to announce that we have abolished
stamp duty on the sale of property registered in the name of females.
This incentive will encourage families to register their properties in the
name of their sisters, daughters, wives and mothers."
More importantly, said an official spokesman, the state cabinet has
exempted women from any stamp duty in case the property is
registered in their names. The cabinet approved levy of stamp duty of 5
