Srinagar, May 24 :Pakistani troops opened a new front this time in north Kashmir district of Baramulla when they violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing, targeting civilians and military posts in Uri sector late Wednesday night, official sources said.
Over a dozen people, including some security personnel were martyred and about 40 others wounded in Pak unprovoked shelling at International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu region during the past one month, when borders in Kashmir remained silent.
However, sources said Pakistan troops resorted to unprovoked shelling and firing targeting forward posts and civilian areas in Kamalkote, Uri late last night. The firing started at 2330 hrs, when people were going to sleep after “ Taravaha” prayers and continued till 0200 hrs this morning, sources said, adding that Indian troops also retaliated.
”We did not suffer any damage in the Pak shelling, sources said, adding that the damage across the LoC was not immediately known.
The India and Pakistan agreed ceasefire on LoC and IB in Jammu and Kashmir in 2003. However, Pakistan has been violating the ceasefire frequently, particularly in Jammu region, where a number of minors fell to the bullets from across the border.
Meanwhile, people in other border areas, including Gurez, Tangdhar, Machil, Keran and Karnah are praying for peace on the borders.
