Bengaluru, May 23 : The swearing in of the Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) government headed by H D Kumaraswamy in Karnataka on Wednesday sent a strong message across the nation about the emerging unity among the political parties opposed to the BJP ahead of the 2019 lok sabha polls.
In his maiden press conference Mr Kumaraswamy said ‘We are all one. Major changes will take place in 2019’. He said the unprecedented show of strength at the swearing in ceremony with a galaxy of leaders only indicated that the opposition parties have united.
The rain marred swearing in ceremony held with the massive Vidhana Soudha as the back drop, saw Governor Vajubhai Vala administering oath of office and secrecy to Mr Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwara.
An unusual bonhomie was witnessed post the swearing in ceremony with leaders, including Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi exchanging greetings with former UP Chief Minister Mayawati and greeting CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yetchury. National Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar was also present and so were Chief Ministers from West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and Kerala.
Mr Kumaraswamy said their presence at the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha put the onus on him to ensure that the coalition run for full five years with the necessary stability. ‘Politics will take backseat and development of the state will be the only mantra of the government’ he added stating that he would not take any major decision until the government passed the floor test scheduled for May 25. He also said that the government would take suitable and positive steps to ensure that the opposition BJP is not allowed to take to the streets protesting against the government. UNI
