Talking to newsmen here after visiting the injured people at the government hospital, Paneerselvam said the plant was already closed and we will take all steps to permanently close it.
“I express condolences on behalf of the government. The fatal firing was heartbreaking for me and I was saddened and shocked by that,” he said while referring to the police firing on the protesters during the Sterlite agitation.
The chief minister said normalcy has returned to Thoothukudi and the prohibitory orders were lifted. The government will ensure that all the families of the firing victims and injured people would get proper compensation.
Accompanied by Fisheries Minister D.Jayakumar, Information and Publicity Minister Kadambur C Raju and district collector Sandeep Nanduri, Paneerselvam also distributed the compensation as announced by the state government to the affected families.
Later, he visited the district collector office and inspected the vehicles damaged during the riots.
