Srinagar: A freelance journalist was harassed and beaten up by the CRPF troopers in Old City here on Saturday.
The journalist Muheet Ahmad was heading towards Fateh Kadal to perform his professional duties when CRPF troopers intercepted him near Bohri Kadal. The troopers, Ahmad said, not only refused to lift razor wire to pave way for him but also abused him without any reason or rhyme.
“After hurling choicest abuses, the CRPF men started beating me with sticks. Almost six troopers pounced upon me and thrashed me mercilessly,” a visibly shaken Ahmad told Kashmir Reader.
He said he was left off only after some cops and CRPF men, posted at a distance came to his rescue.
“Before letting me go, the troopers forcibly took pictures of my voter identity card. Today’s incident has shocked me,” he added. (Agencies)
