Srinagar: Geelani expressed grief over the killing of journalist and editor-in-chief of Rising Kashmir Shujaat Bukhari saying he was shocked to hear the tragic news of this gruesome incident.

“Our faith teaches us that killing of an innocent is equal to killing of whole humanity and it is unfortunate that our elders have to shoulder the coffins of their youngsters on daily basis,” he said.

On Geelani’s directions, his both sons Naeem Zaffar Geelani and Naseem Zaffar Geelani, and Hurriyat chief spokesperson G A Gulzar participated in the funeral of late Shujaat Bukhari at his native village Keeri.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (G) spokesperson said police prevented Geelani from offeringFriday prayers. He said police kept the door closed from outside and did not allow the Hurriyat leader to come out and offer Friday prayers.

The spokesperson condemned the police action and said that authorities have turned Geelani’s residence into a prison.

“A heavy contingent of police and CRPF is deployed on the main gate of his residence where Geelani Sahab continues to be under house arrest for the last eight years,” he said.
