Lucknow, Jun 23 : At least nine people were killed and four others injured in two road accidents in Unnao and Lakhimpur Kheri district on Saturday morning.
Police sources here said that in Unnao, five members of a family were killed and two others injured, when a sand laden truck overturned on an oncoming SUV in Asivan area of Unnao district.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of Unnao Harish Kumar said here that the incident occurred near Rasulabad village when a sand laden truck overturned on the SUV, during a rash overtaking.
Cranes were used to bring out the SUV and extricate the bodies by removing the truck.
In the accident Hiralal(33), his wife Niketa(32), daughter Vaishnavi(13) and son Divash(9) along with one Shravan (26) were killed on the spot. Two others, travelling on the truck, were injured and admitted to a hospital.
Meanwhile, in another road accident in Lakhimpur Kheri, four people were killed and two others injured when an uncontrolled truck overturned crushing people sleeping near a Dhaba near Sisaiya roundabout under Eshannagar police station area.
Police said that the deceased included two women, a child and an elderly, who are yet to be identified. The two injured are in a critical condition.
The truck driver fled from the scene after the accident.
