Shimla, Jun 23 : Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday flagged-off
International Olympic Day Run at the Ridge here.

Hundreds of students from different schools of Shimla participated in the Run. The Chief Minister said
despite being a small state, Himachal Pradesh has made a big impact in sports.
He said Vijay Kumar of Hamirpur district of the state won silver medal in Olympics for the country.

The Chief Minister said the Government would provide all possible facilities for the budding sportspersons
of the state so that they could compete at national and international level.
He said efforts would be made to provide best sports facilities in rural areas as a lot of talent was available there.

Transport, Forests and Youth Services and Sports Minister Shri Govind Thakur said the state government
was committed to strengthening the sports infrastructure in the state.

President of Himachal Pradesh Olympic Association Rajesh Bhandari welcomed the Chief Minister and others present on the occasion.

Wife of Chief Minister Dr Sadhna Thakur, Secretary Language Art and culture Smt Purnima Chauhan, Joint Director Youth Services and Sports Suman Rawat were also present on the occasion.
