Bhopal, June 26 : The Madhya Pradesh Assembly was today adjourned twice during the Question Hour amid uproar created by the principal-opposition Congress after the issue of Emergency – imposed by then Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi – was raised by ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members.
Raising the issue of Emergency sans mentioning the name of the former premier as soon as the House assembled for the day, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra reminded that Emergency was imposed on this very day that year.
Soon after, Congress members were up in arms and created ruckus over the issue. On the other hand, several ministers including Mr Bhupendra Singh, Mr Umashankar Gupta, Mr Lal Singh Arya and Mr Vishwas Sarang demanded apology from the Congress for the Emergency.
In the midst of allegations and counter-allegations, Dr Mishra made certain objectionable comments. While Speaker Sitasaran Sharma got them expunged, Congress members trooped into the well and raised slogans.
Dr Mishra also made certain comments directed at state Congress chief Kamal Nath. Amid the din, the Speaker adjourned the House for five minutes.
When the House reassembled, Dr Mishra demanded that the Government’s standpoint be recorded in the proceedings. His remarks triggered another round of sloganeering by Congress members. As the pandemonium continued, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings for another half an hour.
