Srinagar, Jun 30 : As the rains continued to lash Valley for the second consecutive day here, the government on Saturday sounded flood alert in Srinagar’s low lying areas, urging people to be alert and prepare for the evacuation.
Earlier on Thursday, the government sounded alert in South Kashmir following the rise in water level in streams as well as in river Jehlum.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Syed Abid Rasheed Shah said that they have issued flood alert for low lying areas. He also appealed people living in low lying areas and embankments of river Jehlum in Srinagar to be alert and prepare for the evacuation.
“The level of the Gauge at RM Bagh is 20.82 ft at 9 am. We have issued a flood alert for low lying areas of srinagar.People living in low lying areas & embankments of Jehlum in Sgr are requested to be ALERT & Prepared for evacuation,” DC Srinagar tweeted.
It is worth to mention here that at 11:00 am today, the water in river Jehlum was flowing at 22.91 ft at Sangam, 20.91ft at Munshi Bagh and 11.75 ft at Asham. (KNS)
