Srinagar: The state government on Wednesday ordered cable operators to shut airing non-permitted satellite channels in the Valley in the ‘larger interest of public and maintenance of peace and tranquility’.

The order asking cable operators to stop broadcasting banned channels in this regards was passed by the Home Department here. The cable operator have been warned of tough action in case the transmission of banned channels is not stopped in the next three days.

Meanwhile, cable operators of the Valley have called for an emergency meet to discuss the issue.

“We have been told to shut down broadcast of 30 satellite channels. This diktat is unwarranted and uncalled for. We might shut down the cable services if this order is not revoked,” a cable operator told local media.(Agencies)
