Guwahati, Jul 23 :ย  Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today appealed to people in Assam not to panic over the upcoming publication of National Register of Citizens (NRC) saying that there is no question of anyone putting in detention camp after the publication of National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Allaying the fears of the people in a series of tweets, Mr Singh said โ€œNo person is allowed to be harassed and no one is allowed to create fear or panic. Central government will provide all necessary help to the government of Assam in this regard.โ€
He also wrote: โ€œThe state government of Assam has been asked to ensure that law and order is maintained and no one is allowed to take law into their hands and all possible arrangements are made to ensure safety and security for allโ€.
He said the citizenship rules provide that any person, who is not satisfied with the outcome of claims and objections, can appeal in the foreignersโ€™ tribunal. Thus, there is no question of anyone being put in a detention centre after the publication of NRC, he said
Mr. Singh also met Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and senior officials on Sunday.
As directed by the Supreme Court, the Registrar-General of India will have to publish the final list on July 30 to segregate Indian citizens in Assam from those who entered the State illegally from Bangladesh after March 25, 1971. The first draft was published on December 31 last, with the names of 1.9 crore of the 3.29 crore applicants.
