Srinagar: Restrictions have been imposed in parts of Anantnag town to foil any possible protests as a fierce gun-battle is underway between militants and the government forces in the heart of the south Kashmir township.

Curbs have been imposed on the movement of people in several localities of Lal Chowk in the main town Anantnag, where two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants are engaged in a fierce firefight with government forces, witnesses told Kashmir Reader.  Mehmaan Mohalla, where the encounter started in the wee hours today, has been placed under siege by army, police and the CRPF.

“Even photojournalists are not allowed to get closer to the encounter site. A tight vigil is being kept by the government forces,”witnesses said. (Agencies)
